DH Code Testing Policy

PREAMBLE

Designer Homes is committed to assisting Worldbuilders in developing expanding repertoires of coding which operate effectively on the CT server.

Recognizing this need, DH is establishing the following policy guidelines to cover instances where builders may want to test coding for use in CT worlds. It is hoped that coding which proves successful in testing will be shared with other builders & added to the DH website's Tips area.

PROCEDURES FOR BUILDERS

If you wish to have coding tested :

  • contact DH Staff by INBOX at DH;
  • include in your message - information regarding the type of coding you wish to test & how you wish to test it. (I would like to test X coding by applying it to X object/function/etc).

DH Staff will :

  • evaluate your request;
  • notify you if your coding may be tested, or send you information regarding the prior existence of such coding;
  • send you instructions on how to proceed.

PROCEDURES FOR PREPARING FILES

Once approved, builders must ready their files by:

  • having the coding in question couched in a simple, stripped-down world wrl;
  • having WorldInfo which specifies that the wrl is a test world;
  • having the wrl gzipped;
  • having a simple thumb prepared which specifies that the wrl is a test world, & displays your nickame, & the date;
  • including minimal or no texture files;
  • sending all of the above files to DH Staff in a manner specified by DH Staff - which will either be to email the files as attachments, or, by having the files up on your own webspace where they may be cached & retrieved by DH Staff (the latter is preferred for security reasons).

PROCEDURES FOR DH STAFF

Once the files have been received, DH Staff will :

  • upload a single instance of the files to DH set at 0cc;
  • accept & drop a single instance of the world in the Starter Homes Shop set at 0cc with the current date;
  • one DH Staff member will purchase the world installing it as a house at a pre-selected DH Staff nick or alt;
  • notify the builder of the location of the world so that s/he may view it;
  • send the builder an assessment of the functioning of the coding;
  • maintain the world only so long as necessary to complete an assessment.

RECORDING PROCEDURES

DH Staff will keep a permanent list of worlds tested in a topic book to be kept in the DH Warehouse area. This record will include :

  • the nature of the coding being tested;
  • the builder's CT nick;
  • the nick of the DH Staff member who uploaded the world & the DH Staff member who installed it;
  • where it was installed (at which nick);
  • the date of the original drop & any subsequent testings of that world;
  • all url paths for the wrl(s);
  • the results of the testing.
